SUMMARY:YRI Session at the 3rd ENEOLI General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Open Call for Young Researchers and Innovators (YRI) Session \nAs part of the 3rd ENEOLI General Meeting in Prague\, we are delighted to host a dedicated session for Young Researchers and Innovators (YRI\, under the age of 40 at the moment of applying to ENEOLI) on 29 May 2026\, from 11:00 to 12:30\, at the Faculty of Arts – Charles University. Presenters will begin with a one-minute pitch and continue with their poster presentation. This session offers a broader perspective\, encouraging emerging researchers in neology to share their insights and methodologies in lexical innovation\, fostering the exchange of ideas\, collaborative discussion\, and constructive feedback beyond the scope of current WG plans. \nThis pitch and poster session provide young researchers with a valuable opportunity to connect with the ENEOLI network\, receive constructive feedback\, and contribute to advancements in neology research.  \nYRI session proposals may include contributions in three tracks: \n\nPlanned work: Initial ideas outlining upcoming research in neology\, ideal for receiving early feedback and suggestions.\nWork in progress: Ongoing research presenting preliminary findings or methodological advancements in lexical innovation.\nCompleted work: Finished studies offering insights or findings relevant to ENEOLI’s WGs.\n\nSubmission guidelines for posters and pitches: \n\nSubmissions are open to YRIs who are members of ENEOLI or are actively involved in neology research. For those who still need to become members\, we warmly encourage you to apply for ENEOLI membership through the COST website. This will connect you with a dynamic network of researchers and practitioners in neology.\nSubmissions must be in English and anonymized.\nAbstract of a maximum of 300 words\, detailing the research purpose\, methodology\, and key insights.\nThe proposals must be sent via Google Form by January 31\, 2026.\n\nThe Program Committee will peer-review all proposals based on relevance\, originality\, and clarity. DESCRIPTION:NeoTerm 2026 is the second International Workshop on Terminological Neologism Management\, organized by the ENEOLI COST Action. The first edition (Neoterm 2025) was held in Thessaloniki (Greece) as a co-located event with MDTT 2025. \nThis year\, NeoTerm goes north and will be organized by the University of Bergen\, Norway\, on 3 September 2026. \nThe 2nd NeoTerm workshop will be co-located with the Nordic/European event aimed at initiating joint Nordic–European collaboration on “Språkleg berekraft og beredskap / Linguistic sustainability and preparedness” in collaboration with Nordterm/EAFT (4th September 2026). This will be an occasion to celebrate 30 years of the European Association for Terminology (EAFT) and 50 years Nordterm. \nThe workshop will be an on-site event. SUMMARY:From Words to Worlds: A Training School of Lexical Innovation
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce From Words to Worlds: A Training School of Lexical Innovation\, to be held from 7–11 September 2026 at the Faculty of Foreign Languages\, University of Tirana\, Albania. \nThis training school is aimed at BA\, MA\, and PhD level students who are interested in exploring the dynamic field of lexical innovation and its applications across multiple domains. Participants will gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the study\, analysis\, and managing lexical innovation taught through the following five modules: \nModule 1: Fundamentals of neology\nModule 2: Neology and translation & interpreting\nModule 3: Neology and terminology\nModule 4: Neology and language teaching\nModule 5: Neology and lexicography \nFunding: Travel (up to 400€)\, accommodation and daily allowance (for both up to 150€/day) will be covered as part of the ENEOLI COST Action for 15 participants. Then we examine the various mechanisms through which languages update their lexicon covering morphological\, phonological\, syntactic and semantic processes involved in the creation of new words\, and we also analyse the borrowing of words from other languages with considerations of a sociolinguistic nature. Finally\, we focus on the functions of neologisms and regarding the expressive functions\, we analyse the pragmatic roles of neologisms that do not become stabilized in usage. \n\nModule 2: Neology and translation & interpreting \nPetar Božović\, University of Montenegro &Eriola Qafzezi\, Fan S. Noli University\n\nThis module develops participants’ theoretical and methodological understanding of neological processes relevant to translation and interpreting\, strengthening their ability to analyse linguistic innovation within specific communicative\, cultural\, and institutional contexts. Through hands-on\, literary and non-literary case studies\, participants identify and analyse neologisms using corpus-based\, terminological\, and lexicographic methods\, and apply appropriate translation strategies in line with professional quality standards and conventions. The module emphasises practice-based learning by simulating complete professional workflows\, including the strategic use of digital resources (CAT tools\, corpus resources\, terminology management systems\, and/or AI-assisted technologies) for neologism management\, while fostering critical reflection on the role and impact of neologisms in intercultural\, professional and institutional translation practice. \n\nModule 3: Neology and terminology\nAmal Haddad Haddad\, University of Granada & Michaela Hroteková\, Comenius University\, Bratislava\n\nIn this module\, we aim at providing a global understanding regarding neology in specialised discourse and its sustainability\, highlighting the transfer of terms across domains and genres. The session includes practical exercises related to the formation processes of neologisms in scientific domains\, as well as terminology management tools related to the extraction of terms and neologisms and their analysis. \n\nModule 4: Neology and language teaching\nDaniela Hasa\, University of Tirana & Etleva Koni\, University of Tirana\n\nThis module will explore lexical innovation from a pedagogical perspective\, with a focus on how neologisms can be meaningfully integrated into language teaching at advanced levels of education. The module will extend beyond the definition of neologisms to examine their potential as pedagogical resources that enhance lexical awareness\, critical thinking\, and learner autonomy. Participants will engage with authentic language data and classroom scenarios to analyse how learners perceive\, process and apply new words. Particular emphasis will be placed on the design of teaching activities that link emerging vocabulary to discourse\, register\, and communicative intent. By the end of the day\, participants will be able to critically assess teaching materials\, develop neologism-based learning tasks\, and reflect on the role of lexical innovation in promoting flexible and context-sensitive language competence. \n\nModule 5: Neology and lexicography\nMiguel Sánchez-Ibáñez\, University of Valladolid & Ana Salgado\, University of Porto\n\nThis module explores the relationship between neology and lexicography through four moments that combine theory and practice\, showing what neologisms and dictionaries are meant to be together despite tensions between novelty\, variation and lexicographic stability. It starts reflecting over the challenging relationship between neologisms and dictionaries\, examining the concept of dictionarisation. The second moment focuses on macrostructural decisions: dictionary-making workflows and the different ways in which general-language dictionaries handle lexical novelty. The third moment turns to microstructure and hands-on work: participants will analyse the essential components of dictionary entries and collaboratively record and describe neologisms\, effectively contributing to a small neologism dictionary.
