FEATURED NEOLOGISM:
My favorite neologism is Boomer, maybe because I belong to this generation. We borrowed it from English to German at the end of the 2010s; it is now used extensively, especially in contexts where the behavior of the boomers is contrasted with that of other generations (e.g. the millennials). “Boomer” has found its way into the IDS neologism dictionary as well as other German sources, e.g. “Duden online” or the “Digitales Wörterbuch für die deutsche Sprache” (DWDS).
Annette Klosa-Kückelhaus holds an MA and PhD in German linguistics from the universities of Munich and Bamberg. She has been a lexicographer for Duden Publishing House and has (co-)authored extensively on lexicography. She now heads the “Lexicography and Language Documentation” program area at the Leibniz Institute for the German Language (IDS) in Mannheim. In 2022, she hosted the XX EURALEX International Congress and is currently president of EURALEX. She is also a co-organizer of the “Globalex Workshops on Lexicography and Neology” series with Ilan Kernerman (Tel Aviv), and she has co-edited several special issues and volumes with him on topics of lexicography and neology. She was also editor-in-chief of the German “Neologismenwörterbuch” at IDS for several years.
