En économie, une “licorne” se réfère à une entreprise en démarrage qui est spécialisée dans les nouvelles technologies, est valorisée à plus d’un milliard de dollars, est non cotée en bourse, est le plus souvent déficitaire, et absorbe des investissements “fabuleux” par les investisseurs afin de donner vie à une entreprise fantôme ou fabuleuse. Le Journal officiel la définit comme une “gazelle” dont la valeur est estimée à au moins un milliard d’euros. Une gazelle, un animal tout ausssi mignon, moins fabuleux mais doublé d’un néologisme plus récent (Journal officiel du 30/08/2022): une gazelle est une jeune pousse dont la croissance soutenue pendant plusieurs exercices atteste l’extensibilité du modèle économique. Prof. Dr Hendrik J. Kockaert lectures French Linguistics, Terminology, Financial Translation and Translation Technology. He is a member of the Translation and Technology Research Group and his research focuses on translation quality assurance, terminological principles, financial translation and translation technology.

As a certified ECQA (European Certification and Qualification Association) trainer and Job Role Committee Provider, he develops and lectures online courses in terminology. He is the Chairperson of ISO TC 37 SC 1 WG 3 (Principles, methods and vocabulary) and a member of NBN, the Belgian Bureau for Standardisation.

He is the Founding Editor of Digital Translation: International Journal of Translation and Localization and co-edits with Frieda Steurs the Handbook of Terminology (Online), both published by John Benjamins and Scopus indexed. He was the coordinator of the following projects financed by the Directorate-General for Justice of the European Commission: QUALETRA (JUST/2011/JPEN/AG/2975), and LIT Search (JUST/2013/JPEN/AG/4556). Together with Winibert Segers and Televic Education, he developed translationQ, a CAT tool that delivers an automated evaluation and revision process.

Since 2023, he was re-elected as 1st Vice-President of TermNet, the International Network for Terminology, for a three year mandate.
