FEATURED NEOLOGISM:

Hygge is my favourite neologism. It is a word that comes from Danish (previously taken from Norwegian), where it means ‘cosiness’, ‘comfort’, but which has spread to refer to the feeling of satisfaction and well-being obtained by little things such as the warmth of home, a meal with friends in a candlelit setting or reading a book on a sofa under a soft blanket.

I hold a PhD in Philology (Universitat de Barcelona, 2002) and I teach the subjects of Lexicon, Terminology and Neology at the Department of Translation and Language Sciences at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. I am the principal investigator of the IULATERM group at the Institut de Lingüística Aplicada (UPF) and the director of the Observatori de Neologia de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra, a neology research group that has just celebrated its 35th anniversary. In the last 10 years I have been the principal investigator of several competitive projects on neology and lexicography, but currently my research is oriented towards computational neology.
