FEATURED NEOLOGISM:

The Romanian word BINIȘTE, a blend of the adverb “bine” ‘well’ and the noun “liniște” ‘silence; peacefulness’, won an online contest aimed at finding a native equivalent for the Danish “hygge”. Although several writers were invited to propose words, the most-voted option came from the public. “Biniște” designates a state of mind characterized by calmness and composure, as well as the ability of a specific object or moment to cause this feeling. The organizers of the contest published a book dedicated to the ways for achieving “biniște” (“Cărticica de biniște”, Nemira Publishing House, 2021).
Despite the popular support during the competition, the word’s circulation remains limited.
