FEATURED NEOLOGISM:

One of my favourite recent neologisms is razkrink, a Slovene noun derived from the verb razkrinkati (‘to expose’ or ‘unmask’), used when bringing hidden falsehoods or manipulations to light. Razkrink refers to a journalistic piece that critically examines and debunks misleading claims, half-truths, and disinformation—an increasingly necessary practice in a media landscape shaped by the proliferation of fake news and blurred lines between journalism and advertising.

I’m a research associate at the Center for Language Resources and Technologies at the University of Ljubljana. I specialise in corpus linguistics and have been actively involved in developing language resources and technologies for modern standard Slovene. This includes the creation of major Slovene language corpora, manually annotated training datasets, and a number of linguistic databases, all openly available through the CLARIN.SI repository. I have co-developed several lexical resources, such as the Thesaurus for Modern Slovene and the Collocations Dictionary of Modern Slovene, with a strong focus on presenting authentic contemporary language use. My research combines theoretical and applied perspectives on language data, with interests ranging from empirical linguistic studies, annotation issues, user involvement, and language didactics. I advocate for open data and socially responsible development of language technologies and tools.
