STSM: Attitudes towards new English loanwords and heritage alternatives: a cross-linguistic approach
Name: Eline Zenner & Gisle Andersen
Start : 31/03/2025
End: 05/04/2025
The ENEOLI COST action (CA22126) funded a visit to the University of Jyväskylä hosted by
Associate Professor Elizabeth Peterson. The visit by Associate Professor Eline Zenner (KU Leuven)
and Professor Gisle Andersen (Norwegian School of Economics) was the first step towards a new
research project, and the participants discussed issues of research design and implementation
for a project aiming to add to the currently mainly corpus-oriented approaches in Anglicism
research by targeting (perceived) semantic nuances between English (pragmatic) borrowings vs.
heritage alternatives, and by investigating differences between language ecologies in the answer
to this question.
