STSM: A Comparative Study on the Use of Neologisms in Academia

Name: Halil İbrahim Balkul

Start : 01/09/2025
End: 05/09/2025

The STSM aimed to explore how academics at the University of Warsaw (Poland) and Sakarya University (Türkiye) engage with neologisms in academic contexts. To this end, an online questionnaire comprising 24 items was developed in English and administered to Turkish and Polish academics. Prior to participation, respondents received a detailed description of the study and its objectives in their native languages (Turkish and Polish).

During the STSM, Halil İbrahim Balkul met with host professors and staff at the Institute of Western and Southern Slavic Studies. Together, they analyzed the survey results and discussed the findings. The STSM provided an opportunity for international collaboration, allowing the grantee to work alongside experienced researchers and explore avenues for disseminating the outcomes.

The grantee and hosts plan to publish the survey results in an academic journal, contributing to the visibility of the ENEOLI Action. The findings are available (on request) to other ENEOLI members—particularly those in WG4—who may benefit from and expand upon this work.
