Victoria from the University of Alicante carried out a Short-Term Scientific Mission at Cardiff University, where she worked with Professor Luis Espinosa-Anke and the NLP research group. During her stay, she explored the links between neology, automatic text simplification, and gender bias in Natural Language Processing. The work focused on methods for detecting and analysing lexical innovation in original and simplified texts, with particular attention to inclusive and gender-related language. The visit also provided opportunities to exchange ideas on bias-aware analysis and mitigation approaches, strengthening connections between neology, corpus linguistics, and contemporary NLP research.
