Fahad Khan carried out a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) at the Institute for the Croatian Language (IHJ) in Zagreb, focusing on the study and documentation of algospeak from a cross-linguistic and cognitive linguistic perspective.
The visit began with a seminar presenting the aims of the mission, which brought together researchers from IHJ, the University of Zagreb, and members of the ENEOLI network. This provided a valuable platform for discussion and helped shape the subsequent research activities.
The core of the STSM consisted of collaborative work with IHJ researchers, including detailed analysis of algospeak phenomena in English, Italian, and Croatian. This led to the development of an annotation schema grounded in conceptual metaphor and metonymy theory, enabling a systematic description of figurative patterns in algospeak.
In parallel, new Croatian examples were collected and integrated into the ENEOLI Task 2.6 lexical resource. Discussions with IHJ colleagues also contributed to refining the descriptive framework used for documenting examples and to defining methods for expanding the resource to additional languages.
The STSM achieved its objectives and established the basis for ongoing collaboration, including planned joint publications and the development of guidelines for the continued enrichment of the algospeak lexical resource.
