STSM: ARGOTISMS AND NEOLOGISMS – Development and Implementation of Task WG3.8
Name: Andrzej Napieralski
Start : 10/03/2026
End: 17/03/2026
During his Short-Term Scientific Mission at the University of Artois, Andrzej Napieralski had the pleasure of working with Anne Gensane on the development of Task WG3.8 within the ENEOLI COST Action. The mission focused on strengthening the research strand at the intersection of neology and argotology, with particular attention to the emergence, circulation, stabilisation, and obsolescence of innovative lexical forms in rap, hip-hop, and related digital discourse.
One of the main outcomes of the STSM was the transformation of the initial proposal for WG3.8 into a more concrete and operational collaborative framework. The discussions made it possible to establish a shared scientific orientation, clarify the core research questions, and reduce the risk of fragmentation between partners. The mission also contributed to the development of a common methodological perspective by identifying analytical categories, comparative variables, corpus criteria, and tool-supported procedures that can be used across different linguistic and national contexts.
The STSM further supported the preparation of coordinated scientific activities planned for 2026, including contributions linked to Groningen, the 3rd ENEOLI General Meeting in Prague, Białystok, Arras/CMLF, and the XVIIe International Argotology Colloquium. It also helped define a common roadmap for abstracts, conference papers, and collaborative writing. Although no final publication was completed during the mission itself, the visit laid solid foundations for future joint outputs and for the long-term visibility and sustainability of WG3.8 within the ENEOLI COST Action.
