In February 2026, Ganna Krapivnyk, DSc in Philosophy, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor at H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University (Ukraine), carried out a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) at the Leibniz Institute for the German Language (IDS) in Mannheim, kindly hosted by Dr. Petra Storjohann.
The mission focused on a corpus-based study of lexical innovation in Ukrainian, with particular attention to the rapidly evolving domain of blockchain and crypto-assets. The visit enabled further refinement of the methodological framework for identifying and analysing emerging terminology in specialised discourse.

A key outcome of the STSM was the expansion and structuring of a specialised Ukrainian-language corpus, which now exceeds 800,000 tokens and includes scientific, regulatory, and analytical texts. The corpus provides an empirical basis for examining usage patterns and processes of lexical normalization in Ukrainian.
The research activities included expert meetings with Dr. Jan Rüdiger, who introduced the Corpus Explorer tool and discussed approaches to corpus organisation and analysis, and Dr. Harald Lüngen, whose work on neologism detection informed the methodological approach to identifying emerging lexical items. These discussions contributed to improving the analytical design and methodological consistency of the study.
While the STSM did not aim at immediate applied outcomes, it resulted in a clearer and more robust research framework, which will support subsequent stages of analysis and facilitate the integration of corpus-based methods into the study of Ukrainian lexical innovation within the COST Action context.
Sincere gratitude is extended to Dr. Petra Storjohann, as well as to Dr. Jan Rüdiger and Dr. Harald Lüngen for their support and valuable insights.
