Amal Haddad Haddad attended the Researching and Applying Metaphor Conference (RaAM 17), held from 7 to 10 August 2025, where she presented the findings of her research on neologisms and innovation.

Her poster presentation, entitled “Conceptual Complexes and Metaphor: Translation of Terms in English, Spanish, and Arabic”, focused on conceptual complexing and meaning extension underlying the metaphoric neologism “carbon capture and sequestration.” She also discussed how translation processes shape the structure of this term in other languages, particularly Spanish and Arabic.

The results highlight how the study of conceptual complexes can contribute to the accurate creation of neologisms in secondary languages, and how this approach may also support the development of rule-based methods for the automatic creation of neologisms in low-resource languages.

The conference was an enriching experience, featuring inspiring talks and insightful plenary sessions. It provided an excellent opportunity to connect with colleagues working on a wide range of topics and to foster future collaborations.
