Wasap/Guasap: It is a word that comes from English and has been adapted to Spanish spelling. It is not yet registered in the academic dictionary, but it is already documented. It is now used practically every day by all Spanish speakers to mean ‘message’. It is a metonymic word that owes its name to the name of the online chat application (WhatsApp), but its frequency of use is very high.

Pre-doctoral fellow at the University of Valladolid with funding from the Ramón Areces Foundation. PhD student on the PhD programme in Spanish: Linguistics, Literature and Communication. Scholarship holder at the University of Valladolid for two consecutive years 2022-2024. Research assistant at the Università degli Studi di Verona in Lorenzo Franciosini’s transcription and lexicographic correction project. Collaborator in the lexicographic project “Parâmetros para a construção de um dicionário trilíngue constrastivo Espanhol-Português-Libras para estudantes brasileiros universitários”, at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. With numerous official certifications in courses and languages.
