Hallucination (English) / Alucinación (Spanish) have acquired new senses in the context of Artificial Intelligence (AI). They refer to the responses generated by AI that create false or misleading information. Their etymology point to the idea of ‘wandering in the mind’ or ‘dreaming’, but I also imagine the computer telling white lies to please the user or making up surreal stories in order to overcome its blank page anxiety and ‘horror vacui’.

Clara Inés López-Rodríguez is a full professor in the Department of Translation and Interpreting of the University of Granada (Spain). She is a member of the TRADAMACC (Translation and Multimodal Access to Science and Culture) research group [http://tradamacc.ugr.es] and has participated in 11 research and development projects aimed at the compilation of corpora and the creation of multimodal dictionaries on the fields of Medicine, Environmental Science and Emotions such as EcoLexicon, Varimed [http://varimed.ugr.es], Lexemos [https://varimed.ugr.es/lexemos] or EIMITA. Her research deals with English-Spanish specialized translation, terminology, corpus linguistics, multimedia translation, localization, accessibility and emotions. Her experience in medical translation, the localization of websites, software and video games, accessible theater, and emotions has led her to explore creative aspects of language and the lexicon.
