FEATURED NEOLOGISM:
My favourite neologism is “sonder” in English. It means: the sudden realization that every stranger around you has a life as significant as your own. “Sonder” was coined in 2012 by American writer John Koenig for “The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows.” Koenig constructed it partly with French sonder (“to probe, sound”) and German sonder- (“special, separate”) in mind. I like it because it gives a name to a surprising experience/epiphany—while walking through a crowd, becoming aware that everyone you pass is the author of their own life.
