FEATURED NEOLOGISM:

fremdschämen: It is a German neologism that I find so interesting because ever since it appeared, I thought it must have been a German word from the very beginning, because we know this feeling so well.

I studied English, German and Slavonic Studies at Cologne University. After this, I taught German in Barnaul, worked as a technical writer and a project manager in a publishing company. In 2007, I got back to the university, founding the Centre for Writing Competency. My PhD was on the influence of the L1 on FL academic writing. Ever since then, my research goes into cognitive and neurolinguistics, and how FL and how written language work in our minds.
