FEATURED NEOLOGISM:
One of my favourite neologisms is “FOMO” (“Fear Of Missing Out”).
It is an English acronym that became globally widespread through social media culture and digital communication. The term describes the anxiety of missing rewarding experiences, updates, or social interactions occurring online.
I find it particularly interesting because it illustrates how technological and social transformations create new psychological and linguistic needs. It also demonstrates how a digitally born expression can rapidly spread across languages and become integrated into everyday discourse. From a computational linguistics perspective, FOMO is a useful example of semantic diffusion and cross-linguistic adoption in online corpora.
I am a Computer Engineer working in the fields of Natural Language Processing, semantic technologies, ontologies, and meaning representation. My research interests include lexical semantics, terminology extraction, multilingual language resources, semantic change, and knowledge organization. I am particularly interested in how computational approaches can support the analysis and modeling of lexical innovation and neology across languages.
My work also involves ontology engineering, knowledge graphs, semantic interoperability, and AI-supported language technologies. I am interested in contributing to ENEOLI’s activities related to digital resources, computational methods for neology, multilingual lexical data, and semantic modeling of emerging terminology and neologisms.
I am especially motivated by interdisciplinary collaboration between NLP, lexicography, terminology, and corpus linguistics communities. More information about me here.
