FEATURED NEOLOGISM:
My favorite neologism is “pletisanka”. This poetic coinage was introduced into the Serbian language by one of the most famous and significant Serbian writers, Laza Kostić, in his famous poem “Među javom i med snom”.
Written in Serbian, this word is structured by personifying the heart as a woman who weaves — a pletisanka (a weaver) — while what the heart creates, imagines, and feels is “pletivo” (the knitting or weaving), representing a poem. It appeared as a brilliant poetic creation to capture the delicate, intricate process of making art right between wakefulness and dream.
My research journey began through linguistics seminars at the Petnica Science Center, where I later served as a teaching assistant. I am currently completing my master’s studies in German Studies at the University of Ljubljana, focusing my master’s thesis on “Corpus-Based Case Studies on Neologisms in Migration Discourse” by combining corpus linguistics and critical discourse analysis within the context of migration. As a future PhD candidate planning to pursue a similar topic with a strong focus on neologisms, I specialize in corpus-based discourse analysis, the investigation of linguistic innovation, and contemporary discourse dynamics.
