FEATURED NEOLOGISM:

I find the Korean neologism (너-또-다) ‘neo-tto-da’ very interesting. This expression is a shortened version of the Korean sentence ‘너 또 다이어트 중이야?’ which means ‘Are you on a diet again?’ It is commonly used to refer to people who are focused on dieting and controlling their food intake. I believe this expression reflects the current values and interests of Korean people.

I am a researcher specializing in Korean corpus linguistics, lexicography, and lexicology. Since 2012, I have been the principal investigator of the Korean Neologism Investigation Project, where I collect and study hundreds of new words every year. My research focuses on analyzing the emergence, spread, entrenchment, conventionalization and institutionalization of neologisms and unregistered words from a corpus linguistic perspective, with a particular interest in their lexicographical description. Currently, I serve as the planning director of the Korean Association for Lexicography (Korealex) and as the president of Asialex (the Asian Association for Lexicography).
