FEATURED NEOLOGISM:

Currently it is “vibe” and its variations. I like it because it’s short and very vibrant slang expression to show your connection with something. It can be used as a verb or a noun. I can say I like the vibe of the word vibe 😀 https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/vibe

I work at the Department of American and British Studies at Comenius University in Bratislava, where I recently earned my PhD in General Linguistics. My dissertation, “The Development and Use of English in Cyberspace,” examined how the Internet shapes the creation of new words, examining and analyzing innovative categories for digital neologisms. Grounded in surveys, technobiographies, and vocabulary testing, my research revealed how millennials recognize and adopt Internet-driven neologisms—insights I am now extending to other age groups. Currently, I’m investigating how various speakers interpret English-derived neologisms and social media slang, as well as how these terms are disseminated in both online and offline spaces. I also teach courses on “Neologization of English Lexis” and “Internet Research,” guiding students through the evolving intersections of language, technology, and culture. My work supports contrastive studies of lexical innovation across languages and domains such as technology, pop culture, and social media. I also aim to develop a Blended Intensive Program in Neology to foster international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
