FEATURED NEOLOGISM:
Biberódromo. Spanish. Formed by “biberón” (‘baby’s bottle’) and -dromo (‘-drome’, as in “aerodrome” or “velodrome”). The place of the house where the babies’ bottles are cleaned, sterilized and stored.
As a father of three toddlers, I am afraid this is one of the words that have marked my life lately… my own creation, by the way 🙂
Miguel Sánchez Ibáñez, Ph. D., works as a tenured lecturer in the Department of Spanish Language at the University of Valladolid (Spain), where he is currently the Head of Studies for the degree in Spanish: Language and Literature. He holds two master’s degrees (in Lexicography and in LGBTIAQ+ Studies), and a Ph. D. in Translation and Intercultural Mediation. His research interests focus on neology, lexicography, corpus linguistics and discourse analysis. Therefore, his main publications so far are related to those aspects: several papers and chapters in indexed journals, dictionaries, a book on Spanish word formation for the general public (“La (neo)lógica de las lenguas”, Ed. Pie de Página, 2021) and some handbooks on specialized vocabulary. Also, he has edited a number of issues on neology and other applied linguistics topics. In 2017 he founded, together with other colleagues, MariCorners (www.maricorners.es), a non-profit organization devoted to the promotion of interdisciplinary research works related to LGBTQ+ issues in Spanish.
More detailed information about his career and publications can be found at his personal webpage: https://portaldelaciencia.uva.es/investigadores/200361/detalle.
