FEATURED NEOLOGISM:

My favourite neologism is bibliodiversity. Used in English publishing discourse, it echoes biodiversity and combines biblio- with diversity. The term emerged in the late 1990s among Chilean independent publishers to express the need for cultural diversity in the world of books. I find it especially meaningful for early childhood and children’s literature, because children should encounter a rich variety of voices, languages, experiences, and stories from the earliest years. I am a lecturer and researcher in early childhood education, with academic interests in children’s literature, language and concept development, and language-rich learning environments. My work focuses on how vocabulary, concepts, and meaning are developed through picturebooks, story-based activities, and educational materials. Within ENEOLI, I am particularly interested in lexical innovation in educational contexts, especially how new words and meanings are introduced, interpreted, and used in children’s texts, classroom discourse, and literacy practices.
