I don’t have one single favourite but I like new compounds that combine German material with words from other languages. A good example would be “Tierwohllabel” (from around 2015). It combines the compound “Tierwohl” (animal welfare) with English “label” and is used to describe labels on food packaging that gives information about the welfare of the animals used during the creation of the food.

As a researcher at the IDS, I am primarily (but not only) interested in the German language. In my research, I generally take a quantitative-statistical approach to language(s). My research on neologisms is mainly concerned with how and when neologisms are accepted in an existing language system and how this can be measured.
