FEATURED NEOLOGISM:

The term “gordafobia” has been created in the Spanish language with the adjective gorda and the compositional element -fobia (from the Greek), which means ‘aversion’ or ‘rejection’. It is a vindictive neologism, spread through feminist platforms, to denounce that the rejection of fat people is a fact that mainly affects women.

Professor of Spanish at the University of Malaga, she has worked on Spanish neologisms, mainly in political, sports and journalistic terms. Currently, as director of the DISMUPREN project, which analyzes press discourse from a gender perspective (https://dismupren.com/) and member of the NEOTERMED project (on neology and medical terminology), she studies, from a gender perspective, neologisms related to health, mainly mental syndromes and terms related to eating disorders. She belongs to the Research Group in Linguistics and Applied Languages, where she is analyzing climate discourse, specifically neologisms in eco- (https://www.uma.es/departamento-de-filologia-inglesa-francesa-y-alemana/info/71874/grupo-de-investigacion-linguistica-y-lenguas-aplicadas/).
