FEATURED NEOLOGISM:

Neologism latečko. It is a morphological and graphical modification of the word caffe latte, which was integrated into Slovak as a diminutive. Within the field of gastronomy, Slovak tends to use the adopted words often as diminutives, such as kapučko (capuccino) or frapečko (frappé).

Zuzana Puchovská, is involved in contrastive linguistics and Franco-Slovak contrastive grammar in her publishing and teaching activities, and sees her mother tongue as the starting point of this confrontation. She is also involved in corpus linguistics, working mainly with Aranea corpora, and its didactic use in the Slovak educational context. The focus of her scientific research is on the issues of mutual explanatory-descriptive description of the functioning of languages, their lexical, morphological and syntactic categories, as well as the perceptions of the world that languages form, and she incorporates the results of her research into pedagogical practice and teaching materials. She deals with the problems of neology mainly as a didactician, therefore she is mainly interested in the didactic treatment and possibilities of teaching neologisms to future translators, teachers and philologists. In the past, she has led two projects directly or marginally related to the topics of ENEOLI project: Language Corpus as a Didactic Tool in the Preparation of Foreign Language Teachers, Translators, Interpreters and Philologists in Plurilingual and Multicultural Contexts and Contextualized Grammatical Discourse in the Description of the French Language. The second project dealt with Slovak grammatical terminology, which innovatively names some phenomena of the French language, thus creating terminological neologisms in the description of the French language.
