segapoto

09.02.2026

A Basque noun, literally “scythe-pot”, historically referring to a holster for a stone for sharpening scythes worn attached to the belt when working on the fields. When mobile phones came out, people used to wear holsters attached to their belts, where the mobile phone was carried. Exploiting this analogy, people started to call mobile phones “segapoto.” Source: https://eneoli.eu/mmbr/david-lindemann/
