The ENEOLI Special Session at the 6th CINEO Conference
The ENEOLI Special Session was one of the highlights of the 6th CINEO Conference, representing an important advance in the study of lexical innovation in Romance languages.
Held on July 8, 2025, at the University of Coimbra, Portugal, and co-located with the 6.º Congresso Internacional de Neologia em Línguas Românicas (CINEO 2025), the event was organized by the COST Action ENEOLI (CA22126) and gathered a dynamic community of neology specialists.
With more than 30 participants from across Europe and beyond, the ENEOLI Special Session offered a distinctive platform for (inter)disciplinary exchange on cutting-edge topics on lexical innovation.
The workshop featured nine peer-reviewed presentations in four Romance languages (French, Galician, Portuguese, and Spanish), organized into three thematic sessions: “Neology and Society”, “Lexical Innovation: Evolutions, Challenges and Applications”, and “Morphological Approaches”.

The ENEOLI Special Session at CINEO 2025 emphasized the diversity and complexity of today’s neological research while also demonstrating the ENEOLI network’s growing capacity for collaboration.
The session reflected the interest in the work being carried out and the relevance of the research presented. It also served as a good opportunity to promote ENEOLI among non-members and foster new collaborations.
The ENEOLI COST Action wishes to thank the University of Coimbra and the CINEO Organizing Committee for creating this unique occasion for networking and sharing expertise in the fast-evolving field of lexical innovation!
