Training School on Lexical Innovation in Tirana

15.09.2026

From 7 to 11 September 2026, the University of Tirana hosted the international summer school From Words to Worlds: A Training School of Lexical Innovation, organised by the European Network for Lexical
Innovation (ENEOLI, COST CA 22126). The five-day event brought together 15 undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students from Albania, Georgia, Italy, Montenegro, Portugal and Spain, as well as lecturers from Comenius University Bratislava, Fan S. Noli University, Pompeu Fabra University, the University of Granada, the University of Lyon, the University of Montenegro, the University of Porto, the University of Tirana, and the University of Valladolid, reflecting the international and interdisciplinary character of the ENEOLI network.

During the five-day training programme, students developed interdisciplinary knowledge and practical skills in the study and application of neology through five thematic modules focusing on the fundamentals of lexical innovation, lexical innovation and translation, lexical innovation and terminology, lexical innovation and language teaching, and lexicography.

A particular feature of this year’s summer school was the first implementation of an innovative methodology and teaching materials for training in lexical innovation, developed within Working Group 4,  “Innovative Approaches to Teaching Lexical Innovation,” of the European Network for Lexical Innovation. Through lectures, practical activities, discussions and hands-on tasks, students had the opportunity to apply the concepts and approaches introduced during the training to real-world
examples of lexical innovation.
